The Problem: Feeling Outside the Circle of Life

As social animals, humans have a profound need to be with others. The more close human connections we have, the better we can withstand times of difficulty and loss. Without human connections we are more vulnerable to loneliness, which is correlated with lower life expectancy and poor overall health (Caccioppo and Patrick 2008). In short, we need others to survive emotionally and physically.

If we’re living in fearful isolation and unable to enjoy activities or function at work, we need a powerful skill to break the pattern of avoidance. We need participating.
